Pissed I can’t get to Melbourne for the writer’s festival. I fantasize I’d button-hole some of the New Yorker folk who are town and score a dream commission based on my dazzling pitches. But I wouldn’t have the stones to do that anyway and would end up hanging around the auditorium after they’ve spoken and gone, pondering a career as a kitchenhand…

I am a big fan of Eustace Tilley and his mates and it’s my ambition when I grow up to be one of their regular contributors.

However, these two interview targets come across as sounding like their heads, right up to their black turtle neck sweaters, are firmly up their arses. I love music crit Sasha Frere-Jones’ work, but man, he sounds like a tough interview. And as for Henry Finder; all those silences and single sentence answers. Whew…poncy assholes they may appear but I can only hope its just some kind of modest shyness. Not very New York after all perhaps.

Still love them. Or at least their mag. Just not sure I’d have them over for dinner….
