Bahrain F1: my feature in Le Monde

Cairo airport is not a place to be detained by security. Not only is it one of the Middle East’s less salubrious airports, it has also acted as a hub in the US’s Kafkaesque rendition programme, part of a serpentine maze that led some to Guantanamo Bay, or worse. Leading Bahraini human rights activist Nabeel Rajab certainly felt the fear, as he explained after being held recently “for no reason” for 19 hours at Cairo airport under controversial circumstances.
